CLIENT TOOLS

Below are a range of tools that you can use to make 'all things web' easier.  Some are services that are standard with your website or email hosting account, some are add-ons that you can include in your hsoting package, and some are free tools that you might find useful (and cheaper - obviously).

Webmail

View your email online by browsing to: 

http://webmail.yourdomain.com (where 'yourdomain.com is replaced by your actual domain, e.g. 'ourshop.co.nz')

or, http://webmail.yourhost.net.nz

Login using your email username and password.  If you don't know what these are, please contact the person within your organisation who set up your email, or you can change it using the Client Control Panel if you know your access details.

Administer your website and email set up by logging into the Client Control Panel at the top of this page using the user details we have provided you with.  Please contact us if you do not know your Control Panel access details.

Installatron

Installatron is software that will let you browse web applications that might be useful on your site and then automatically install the application onto your website or domain.  It is available for use by loggin into the Client Control Panel.  If you want more information or assistance on using Installatron, please contact us to discuss your requirements, or click here for a list of web applications for your website that you can install with Installtron.

Check whether a domain name is available for registration, or register a new domain name.

Anti Virus - AVG Free Anti-Virus

If you need a free antivirus program to keep your computer safe and secure from viruses and other harmful programs, we suggest you try AVG Free Anti-virus.

FTP Software - FireZilla FTP

If you need a free FTP program, try out FireZilla – we feel its a great option if you are looking for an alternative FTP program that is free!  You can download it here.

Internet Browser - Mozilla Firefox

Personally, we always use Firefox for all our web browsing - it's a great web browser, it's free, and we find it is faster, more stable, and more intuitive to use.  Check out Firefox here.

Email Client - Mozilla Thunderbird

If you don’t have Microsoft Outlook, and are looking for a free alternative email client to view and manage your email on your desktop computer, try  Mozilla Thunderbird.

Online Office Suite - ThinkFree

Need an online alternative to Microsoft Office? - you might like to try out ThinkFree - it's free, MS Office compatible, and if you use their free 'power tool' you can synchronise your online ThinkFree office suite with the files on your computer.

Open Office Suite - Open Office

We have used the Open Office suite and various times as an alternative to Microsoft Office, and we find it works impressively well.  It's also free, and so can potentially save you a lot of money.  You can order a CD or download for free here.  

Instant Messaging and VoIP - Skype

We use Skype for all of our instant messaging and Voice Over IP needs - you can use it to communicate with us, or for more general purposes.  Download it by visiting the Skype site.

Search Engine Optimisation Tools

Getting your website to the top of Search Engine rankings is potentially vital for your business - and that's where SEO comes in.  There are huge numbers of SEO Tools out there, but here are just a few of the key ones.  If you are serious about learning about SEO - start with these and then expand into more tools as you need to.

  • Alexa Toolbar - standard tool for monitoring your page rank, and evaluating your competitor's websites.
  • SEOmoz - there are plenty of fantastic website resources on this site.
  • URLtrends - compare how your competitor's websites compare to yours in search engine rankings.
